Becoming a Client

I have a very client-oriented practice, and I work to give each client personal advice and professional service.

I normally have a short phone conversation with a potential client before scheduling an appointment. The purpose of this call is to confirm that I will most likely be able to help you by filing a bankruptcy case. I then schedule an appointment to meet with you for an initial consultation. Sometimes I am busy, so my qualified staff will speak with you on the phone and schedule the initial consultation.

I charge $100 for an initial consultation. I charge a fee because the initial consultation is the most important time I spend with clients. With proper communication between the lawyer and client, bankruptcy is a reliable and predictable process. During the initial consultation, I take the time needed to:

  1. Determine whether filing a bankruptcy case is the right decision and
  2. Ensure that we develop a complete plan for a successful case.

My fees depend on the facts of your particular case, and we normally agree that clients may make payments in installments, instead of paying the entire fee before filing a bankruptcy case. We sign a contract after you clearly understand what will happen if you file a bankruptcy case.

As soon as the bankruptcy case is filed, all correspondence and/or collection efforts should be directed to me. The law states that creditors must stop their collection efforts after you file a bankruptcy. This concept is called an "automatic stay." Therefore, you can relax after I file your case - the calls and letters should stop, and you'll be on your way to the fresh start you need. You should call me if you have any further problem with a creditor after we file your bankruptcy case.
